Ingredients
MEATBALLS:
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp garlic powder
SAUCE:
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour
2 cups beef or chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp soy sauce or Dijon mustard
Salt and pepper, to taste
BASE:
12 oz egg noodles (or penne, rice, or mashed potatoes)
TOPPINGS:
1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
Fresh parsley or dill (for garnish)
Instructions
1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, pork, breadcrumbs, egg, and seasonings until just combined. Chill for 20 minutes.
2. Roll into small meatballs and brown in a skillet with oil.
3. Melt butter in the same pan, whisk in flour to create a roux.
4. Slowly whisk in broth and cream. Season with soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thick.
5. Cook pasta or prepare mashed potatoes/rice and set aside.
6. In a greased 9×13 dish, layer the base, meatballs, and sauce.
7. Top with cheese and breadcrumbs. Bake at 375°F for 25–30 minutes.
8. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with parsley or dill.
